Thoth Biosimulations LeadS Live AI Workshop at Gairdner Alberta Symposium

Thoth Biosimulations CEO Khaled Barakat led a hands-on workshop at the Gairdner Alberta Partnered AI + Health Research Symposium, built around the real case of GDC-0834, a drug potent enough to shut down its target that never reached a single patient. The problem wasn't the chemistry. The molecule simply wouldn't dissolve, and poor solubility stopped a promising compound before it could ever reach the clinic. Using that story as a starting point, participants built a small AI model live from real data and then watched it plug into an actual molecule design pipeline to tackle that exact problem. The session showed how predictive tools can flag issues like solubility early, before years of research and investment go into a compound that can't succeed. No coding background was needed, as attendees made the calls while Barakat drove the keyboard, making the workshop accessible to researchers, clinicians, students, and anyone curious about how AI is changing the way new medicines are designed.
